TRAFFIC SIGNS AND ROAD SAFETY
Traffic signs or road signs are signs erected at the side of the road or in some cases above the road to give instructions or provide to the road users.
These traffic signs are used to ensure free movement of traffic and make the road users cognizant of specific law and regulations, road restrictions and prohibitions.
What are triangle road signs?
Usually white with the red border are here to let you know that you are approaching a hazard or a place to stop. This type of signs usually point upward and feature an image of the hazard.
Such as merging traffic, a junction on a bend, a slippery road or a zebra crossing are all examples of common warning road signs.
What do blue and red road signs mean?
Blue road signs gives a positive (compulsory) instruction to a driver such as turn left- right or mini roundabout.
Red color signs usually tell you what you must not do.
Traffic signs are the silent speakers on the road. Traffic signs give information about the road conditions ahead and provide instructions to be followed at the road conditions and warn or guide drivers, and ensure proper functioning of road traffic.
Road Safety Signs are primarily of three types.
Mandatory signs
Usually these traffic signs are used to ensure free movement of traffic and make the road users cognizant of specific road law and regulations etc.
These signs indicate what must one do, rather than must not do. Mandatory road signs are generally round in shape with red border. Some of them are blue in color.
Cautionary signs
These traffic signs make the road users conscious of hazardous conditions on the road beforehand.
These signs are meant to warn the driver about the hazard lying ahead on the road. Cautionary signs are triangular in shape with red border.
Informatory signs
These traffic signs guide road users about destination, distance, alternative routes and provides other information of locations like food, nearby hospitals, public toilets etc.
An informative sign is a very legibly printed and very noticeable placard that informs people of the purpose of an object, or gives them instruction on the use of something.
